Low Cost Business Computer

Below is listed the necessary components to build a low cost  business  computer. This "build" represents our best efforts to select reliable parts that will give you years of service.  You could build a cheaper computer with sub-par parts but the headaches are not worth it.  If you want to convert this to a low cost general purpose (Home) machine, we have included a graphics card due to the fact that general purpose or home computers include gaming which have higher end graphics needs.  If you want to build a decent business machine, just leave off the graphic card because there is an on-board vga port and you will save $165.  We also reduced the size of the hard drive in an effort to keep the cost lower. If you are going to saving videos, music, or adding alot of games, we might suggest a larger hard drive on the order of 1 to 2 TB.

Another thing to consider is the operating system (OS), more and more games are taking advantage of multiple core CPU's by providing support for 64 bit.  Older games not only will not take advantage of 64 bit, they may not run at all.  If you are going to be running older games, there is the possibility they could run in "XP Compatibility Mode" otherwise you could buy the 32 bit Windows 7.

You will notice that only one burner is included to keep the cost down.  If you plan to burn DVDs, you should include an extra burner.  You might want the first one to be a blue-ray  dvd player.  If you are interested in something more powerful, you can visit our "super computer" builder article which will be available soon.

With regards to cpu and motherboard, you have two choices. The first choice is a Intel Core I5 2400 CPU coupled with a msi ph61-a-p35 motherboard.  This a medium level motherboard and cpu.  If AMD is your thing, then the AMD Athlon II X3 455 processor combined with a ASUS M488T-M Socket AM3 motherboard with HDMI port is the way to go for a low cost business machine.   If you want to punch up the power  you could go with the AMD Phenom II Black Edit X4 960T. The X4 has four fully functional cores unlike the X3 which only has 3 cores as the name implies.
